King Scores Five Goals in Bloomsburg Lacrosse Win

BLOOMSBURG-- The Bloomsburg University lacrosse team rallied from two goals downs at halftime to post a 10-9 win over Shippensburg University on Tuesday at Sports Stadium.

Shippensburg took an early 2-0 lead in the game before the Huskies came back and tied the score with a pair of goals from Brieann Wolfe (Perkasie/Pennridge). The Lady Raiders regained the lead at 4-2 before the Huskies got goals from Samantha King (Elkton, MD/Northeast) and Kelsey Quigley (Lansdale/Methacton) just over a minute apart to tie the score at 4-all with 11 minutes left in the half. Shippensburg, though, closed out the half with two goals to lead 6-4 at the break.

The Huskies scored the first three goals of the second half to lead 7-6. King scored back-to-back goals and Allie Kakareka (Royersford/Spring-Ford) hit the back of the net with 24 minutes to play to put Bloomsburg in front for the first time in the game. Shippensburg tied the score up with a goal three minutes later before King scored again for the Huskies making it a 8-7 game in favor of Bloomsburg. But, once again, Shippensburg rallied to tie the game at 8-8 with 15 minutes to play. However, the Huskies were able to get two goals just 29 seconds apart, one from King and the other from Kim Springman (Downingtown/Bishop Shanahan) to lead 10-8 with 10:14 to go.

Shippensburg did make it a one-goal game after scoring with 35 seconds to go, but the Huskies controlled the ball for the final seconds of the game and hung on for the win.

King led the Huskies, now 9-4, 6-2 in the PSAC East, with five goals, while Wolfe added two goals. Shippensburg, 8-7, 4-4 in the PSAC East, got four goals from Rachel Murray.

Bloomsburg plays at Kutztown on Thursday at 4 p.m.
